Hey Storm!
A herd of five zebras housed next to the Black Rhinos contains adult females, their offspring and a dominant male. Storm, the Zoo's dominant male, was born at Werribee Zoo in Victoria, arriving at Monarto in June 2013.
With the addition of a new breeding male the zoo has high hopes for the pitter-patter of additional foal hooves in the not too distant future!

ZEBRA FACTS:
The Plains Zebra is the most common and geographically widespread of the three zebra species. It roams the savannahs of eastern and southern Africa.
Plains Zebra herds are nomadic and generally live in breeding groups with a single male and his ‘harem’ of up to six females or in all male bachelor groups. During periods of migration, these groups can come together to form larger herds, although they will generally stay in their own group.
Zebras have several predators in the wild and when threatened their unique coat patterns, when moving together in a group, can make it difficult for a predator to pick out an individual, giving the zebra a greater chance of survival.
There are approximately 700,000 wild Plains Zebras living on the African savannah plains. They’re currently not threatened, although numbers are decreasing due to hunting for their meat and skins.
Build your own Storm!
- You will need scissors (with adult supervision) and double sided tape, however regular sticky tape will do.
- Cut along the solid blue lines, and fold along the dotted lines.
- Fold the mane in half down the middle, and stick the two sides together. Add double sided tape to both tabs on the mane and push through the large slit on the neck, and stick tabs underneath.
- Add a strip of double sided tape to the remaining tabs on the head and body, then fold, tuck and stick the tabs in numerical order.
- Insert the head into the neck hole of the body.
